Video games challenge our gray cells. But do they really have positive effects? New studies indicate that even the anatomy of the brain changes. Video games across the disciplines are gaining more and more recognition. They should improve our responsiveness, short-term memory and attention, make our children smarter and possibly even keep dementia at bay.
Search for cause and effect
So online video games make smart and social media stupid? It is not that easy. Because, as is the case in many studies that analyze larger data sets, the work of the Australian researchers merely shows a connection; it cannot prove a clear cause. The fact that video games make smart, the investigation has therefore not proven.
Study of the Max Planck Institute shows the effect on the brain

Because whether the subjects had a thicker cortex, because they liked to make video games, or whether they liked to play on the computer, because they anyway had a larger cortex, was not clear.
